Wildfire Protection Measures Meeting June 24

Aldeia Condominium – Vales and Vale da Telha – Meeting Disclosure

On June 24th, at 5:00 pm, a briefing event will take place at the AMOVATE headquarters, in the Old School house in Vales, about the project of the conduminium of the Aldeia de Vales and Vale da Telha.

This project was developed by the municipality of Aljezur with support from the Environmental Fund and PRR. For more info visit their website.

The ultimate goal of this project is to promote the transformation of the landscape in the area surrounding the villages of Vales and Vale da Telha in order to create a landscape and an ecosystem that is more resilient to fires, which guarantees greater protection of the villages against the occurrence of catastrophic fires.

To achieve this goal, the project foresees two types of complementary actions:

Forest intervention and management – with deforestation actions, fuel management, acacia control and grassland improvement.

This work was done in two phases:
– May to September 2023 – with deforestation actions, fuel management, acacia control
– October, November – pasture sowing

Disclosure, communication – aimed at local actors (resident population, owners and other local actors) – consists of explaining the proposed intervention logic, active management of the fuel load and the role that each person plays in this process.
The active participation of local actors in this meeting will be important to establish a future work process that gives continuity to this project and is capable of incorporating local ideas, suggestions and experiences.
