The Portugal News – Now out on Saturdays

BY BRENDAN DE BEER (Taken from The Portugal News)

“Following the unexpected closure of our printers in Loures just outside Lisbon, The Portugal News has now shifted operations to Oporto, where we are sure the quality of print will be maintained.

Due to the move north and the time constraints involved, The Portugal News has decided to publish on Saturdays, which incidentally is our existing publication date, but we decided a few years ago to bring it forward.

Due to this change, newspapers will, starting next week, now be delivered in Lisbon on Friday evenings and in the Algarve in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Numerous printers approached The Portugal News in the aftermath of our printer’s demise, but most proved incapable of printing a newspaper with an audited circulation of over 20,000 newspapers.

This is mostly due to the fact that unlike The Portugal News, most newspapers have made significant cuts in their circulation in order to keep their heads above water. Subsequently, printers have been forced to follow suit, and as such, the best option open to The Portugal News at this juncture proved to be a printer in Oporto which prints two other large daily newspapers. ”

Amovate will contact our supplier, to clarify when we can expect delivery in future.

Doctors

AMOVATE have been reliably informed by a medical official at the Health Centre, that three Cuban doctors are in Lagos undergoing training before arriving at the Medical Centre.

We will keep you informed of any further information.

Portugal News Delivery

Amovate members Ron & Patricia Nutter kindly bring a supply of the Portugal News to the Amovate headquarters on a weekly basis, for which we are extremely grateful.  They have advised us that they are experiencing delays in the delivery of the Portugal News to their charity shop in Lagos – and for the past few weeks, the papers have not been delivered until after they have left Lagos.

When this occurs, they will endeavour to collect the papers on a Sunday, and deliver them to Amovate.

We apologise to our members for these late deliveries, and thank Ron & Patricia for their help.
