To celebrate the annual municipal holiday of Aljezur there will be five days of festivities. From August 25 until August 29, the town will be full of animation and well known Portuguese musicians will be performing.
On the first day, there will be a formal opening session in the town hall which will include the handing out of the Municipal Medal of Merit and Dedication “Gold Grade” to António Novais Henriques, for his constant dedication to the challenges thrown up by the associations of Aljezur. Other municipal medals of cultural and sporting honours will be awarded to various associations in the municipality at the same time.
The festivities start on Friday the 25th with the opening of the Street Food festival which will be located next to the municipal market. There will be lots of petiscos or small bites, food stands and musical entertainment. On the 26th, the night will be livened up by Deejay Telio and the following night (27 Aug) Richie Campbell will take to the stage.
The popular “Night A – Multicultural Night” will take place on the 28th of August and will have the usual white dress code. The event will take place in the historic or old part of town and there will be several stages with different shows and performances. Throughout the day, visitors will also have the opportunity to visit the museums of the village and in the late afternoon Rita Guerra will give an intimate concert on the stage near the Castle. This memorable night will finish with a performance on the main stage with D.A.M.A with special guest Buba Espinho.
The party continues on the morning of the municipal holiday with the traditional walk to the beach of Monte Clérigo with the reenactment of the “Banho de 29”, where everyone is invited to take the acclaimed “holy bath”. Tradition and folklore say that the “bath” on August 29 scares away demons and is worth twenty-nine baths.
At the end of the morning, the free distribution of sardines will start in all the different freguesias of the municipality for the “Mega Sardinhada em sua Casa” (sardine party at home) so people can celebrate this day amongst friends.
João Pedro will be closing these five days of festivities on the main stage with a concert of timeless music!
