Bombeiros – Urgent Appeal

Most of you will be aware of a huge fire raging in the South West of the Algarve,  which started near Bordeira in the Aljezur area.

Amovate have been asked to help by a representative of the Algarve organisation Associacão para Alerta de Incendio Florestal – Forest Fire Alert Association.  As always, the Bombeiros on the ground are desperate for provisions and toiletries.  However, due to Covid-19 donations of food and drinks etc. ARE NOT TO BE TAKEN TO THE FIRE STATIONS, but can be left at the Old School House in Vales.  These will then be collected and distributed by representatives of the Association.  The Association are also using their funds to purchase the necessary provisions and distribute accordingly.

The Association are also very low on funds this year due to the lack of fund raising  because of Covid-19.

If you wish to donate to the  Associacão para Alerta de Incendio Florestal (a non profit organisation dedicated to assisting the Bombeiros, and the community) there are some details below.

The Iban and the Paypal details , for donations to the Associacao .

DO NOT GO TO THE BOMBEIROS WITH SUPPLIES

Note from the President

As you will have probably read from the recent article, Amovate has once again rallied to help others in the area, at a time when life has been difficult for everyone, but especially the vulnerable of all ages.

Amovate has partnered with the Aljezur Church Charity on many occasions to help and were happy to do so again.

A special thanks goes to not only Amovate Members, but to local residents who have donated non perishable food and household goods and left them for collection at the Restaurante Fonte do Vale.   Again thanks to Sofia and David at the  Fonte for their continued support in this effort.

Of course Amovate can only help others if they continue to be funded, and like many businesses, charities etc., this year our income has fallen mainly due to the Pandemic.

New Members are always welcome, and we also remind previous members that your membership was due on 1st January.  So if you wish to continue to support Amovate by renewing your membership,  please either pass your old membership card and the fee to a committee member, or visit the office which re-opens on the 3rd July or any Friday after that between 16.00-17.00 at The Old School House….The list Committee Members is on the website  www.amovate.com

A final word is just to say that the Restaurante Fonte do Vale give discounts to Amovate Members,  but you MUST have an up to date membership card (Blue) with you when you try to claim the discount. It is 1 Membership card per person, NOT 1 card per couple or group.  Amovate supply a list of Members to the Restaurant so they are aware of the situation.

Thank you all once again for your help in raising the hopes of the less fortunate.

“Food With Love” For Disadvantaged Families

Amovate, who early in April began distributing boxes of fruit and vegetables, has this week donated €500 to the area’s Sociedade S.Vicente de Paulo, Aljezur, to reinforce that support.

Amovate—the Associação Dos Moradores e Amigos do Vale Da Tel, or the Association of Residents and Friends of Vale da Telha—has already handed out trays of fresh fruit and vegetables to local families via the St Vincent de Paul society and the Conferência Nossa Senhora D’Alva, Aljezur.

The fruit and vegetables were supplied at cost by Aljezur Market stallholder Petra Deen who also packed the boxes for distribution.

Amovate also arranged—with the assistance of the Restaurante Fonte do Vale who received the donations from local individuals via strict social-distancing guidelines—to deliver more than 40 carrier bags of non-perishable foodstuffs to the charity such as pasta, rice, tinned foods, flour, cereals, biscuits, oil, washing liquids, toiletries etc.

Amovate President Ian Bedford told us, “In these difficult times there are always families which suffer more than most and Amovate decided to team up with the local charities to offer our help.

“We were told that supplying boxes of fruit and vegetables for families with no land to grow their own food was the most pressing need, and, after that, the supply of basic essentials to more of the families hit hardest by the pandemic.

“These efforts need to be maintained whilst the pandemic is still being fought and we continue to look at other ways to help. We would certainly appreciate it if the generosity of the local community would continue, with tins or packets of food being dropped off at the Restaurante Fonte do Vale for collection by the two charities”.

The charity Conferência Nossa Senhora D’Alva has described these donations as “Food With Love”, and President Fernanda Agapito, whose team cooks food for 30-plus families at the weekends, declared,

“On behalf of myself and the Conference of Nossa Senhora da Alva we would like to thank everyone for their attitude and what they have done for us, at other times, too, but specifically now in this pandemic. Thank you for your Gifts.

“I am grateful, and I am sure that everyone who receives them will also be so. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Keep safe, and God bless”.

Those collections are ongoing and Amovate ask that more such donations are dropped off at the Fonte restaurant which is situated alongside the centrally-located Pines Roundabout in Vale da Telha.

Amovate President Ian Bedford is pictured here handing the cheque to Aljeur priest Father Antonio, with Fernanda Agapito also in the photograph. There are also images of the fruit boxes that have been distributed to local families in need.
