The Cavern Rocked!!

Amovate’s  Events Team built a fantastic replica stage of the Cavern Liverpool to host “The Bottles” in what turned out to be a fantastic first event night with The Fonte do Vale Restaurant.

Steve Baker’s vision was turned into reality with a perfect back drop painted by Hugo and his Father. The whole set took 8 hours to put together after a lot of work a week ago, when Steve Scott joined SB to build the base frames. Additional lighting and wall posters set the scene.

Tickets sold out within four days and those who were lucky enough to get tickets were not disappointed.

The Bottles were shell shocked when they arrived and saw the set, and their performance certainly matched the venue. They were overwhelmed by it all and said that they had never performed anywhere where  so much effort was put in, for them to perform.

The Fonte do Vale brought in extra staff to deal with the 100 plus ticket holders and their hard work was richly appreciated by all. Prompt service with a smile was the order of the day and manager Sofia was congratulated for all her help in making the evening an outstanding occasion.

Amovate Members, it was announced will in future be awarded a 10% discount on their meals when they eat at The Fonte, on production of a current up to date Membership Card a fantastic gesture by the owners.

The evening went with a swing with two sets from firstly “Back to the 60’s”, with the group playing many favourites that the crowd sung along to and then “The Bottles” suited, booted and wigs as well,  taking us all back to the heady days of The Beatles.

A fantastic evening was topped off with a comment from Amovate’s past President Peter Johnson who was lucky enough to go to the “CAVERN” several times…he said” I can’t believe how good these boys are,I was at the Cavern the lunchtime The Beatles announced and played their first record Love me Do and tonight brings back so many happy memories”.

Now the question is Shall we do it Again? ………….Watch this Space

Beatles Tribute Band – 30th April

Beatles Tribute Band Poster60s Night April 30 2016

The Cavern is coming to the West Coast!

Yes, that’s right—on Saturday April 30th Amovate and the Restaurante Fonte do Vale on the Pines Roundabout will be saying “Welcome to the Vale da Telha Cavern”.

The iconic Liverpool club which was the heartbeat of Merseybeat is being recreated here on Vale da Telha for a spectacular 60s night of music from that era.

Steve Baker of Amovate’s entertainment committee will be building—inside the Fonte—a big, elevated replica of the famous arched brickworked Beatles stage, which will feature two live sessions in this spectacular 60s event.

So, come on all you Baby Boomers—let’s swing again to the Swinging 60s!Bottles 1

Nostalgia is the name and nostalgia is the game as ‘The Bottles’—ranked as the Algarve’s best Beatles tribute act—and their alter ego ‘Back To The Sixties’ take to the “Cavern” stage in a tribute not just to the Beatles but also to the music of that era.

And there is a solid link to the Cavern, because The Bottles wanted to be so authentic that they made their own pilgrimage to play at that classic venue, still a major tourist attraction in Liverpool’s Matthew Street.

But don’t forget, the planet’s most famous club wasn’t home just to the Beatles—world class performers like Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Queen, the Who, Stevie Wonder, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, Oasis, the Hollies, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson and many others also took to that seminal stage.

CavernThat means there will be a huge range of 60s music being played at this major event, with intervals for dancing hosted by a deejay before, during and after the band’s live performances.

The event is the latest in the ‘Amovate in the Community’ programme, aimed at supporting local businesses by organising entertainment on their own premises.

And Steve, a member of Amovate’s three-man entertainment committee (the others are Steve Scott and Rick Hursthouse), declared:

“We really want this to be another fun evening, so, even though it is not compulsory, we would certainly welcome it if some of those attending turned up in fancy dress relating to the 60s era. They’ve certainly got a lot of choices!”

Tickets for this 60s extravaganza cost only €5—did you know the Beatles were paid just £5 for the first of their 292 appearances at the Cavern on February 9th 1961!—and will be available from the Amovate committee members listed below and also from the Fonte do Vale restaurant itself.

Ticket numbers will be limited to just 80, so it is important to get yours early as it is expected that they will sell out quickly.

Doors open at 7.30pm and food will be available throughout from the bar.

The band’s opening set ‘Back To The 60s’ will take to the stage at 8.30pm, playing a range of music from that era.

And at 10pm they don their Fab Four personna as their tribute act ‘The Bottles’ steps onto this recreated Cavern stage to bring the Beatles’ music back to life.

Be there—or be square!

Amovate Car Boot Cancelled for Winter Months

Car-BootChanges in the Portugal Government’s licensing laws covering Car Boot sales have forced Amovate to reluctantly cancel our Car Boots during the winter months.

These changes have made the traditional car boots too expensive to be viable. It meant we could not afford to host commercial traders who had always been an integral part of our car boot operations. Amovate tried to adapt by ruling that stallholders could sell unwanted household items only—no goods grown, made or bought for profit.

This, of course, significantly reduced the number of stalls on site each month and made it less appealing to the customers visiting our sales.

We then found that numbers dwindled even further in the winter months, to the point of being uneconomical, and the November sale was washed out completely by heavy rains.

Amovate therefore decided that in future the car boots would be suspended for the winter period. We offered one of the supporting charities the opportunity to run the sales through these months but that offer was declined.

The suspension of sales will cover the months of December, January, February and March which means the next Car Boot at Amovate, for which notice will be given well in advance, will be held on Sunday April 3, 2016.

Please make a note of the date in your diary.
