Results – April Society Day

The Steve Nicholls Macieira Challenge Trophy

Another successful VdT Golf Society day out at Alamos Golf Course.

The change from the original date worked wonders and the course was in great condition after so many weeks of rain.  The first thing everyone noticed was just how full the lakes and rivers were and probably the water level is now higher than last winter.

The Steve Nicholls Challenge Trophy was competed for in Medal scores, with a Stableford Competition running along side.

Chris Dickens produced a short Ode to Steve which was much appreciated  by all and reflected all the memories we have of the Old Boy……..

Ode to Steve Nicholls

“Christopher, as I live and breathe,

Always the greeting from our friend Steve”

“So, you’ve been out playing with those golf toys,

See, I told you a Medal would sort the men from the boys”

“If I’d have played, Tourettes Syndrome would have kicked in for sure,

Players would have had to hide and hunker,

Oh b*****ks, is that another one in the bunker”

“Another day in paradise, if my Maceira Challenge hasn’t lightened your load,

Don’t go just yet, just stay, and have another one for the road”

“Here we are at another successful VdT Golf Society Day,

If Steve was here, he would have just wanted to play”

“To all of us who knew Steve, we still remember, and think of him often,

So on that last note we’ll raise a glass to toast, Steve is not forgotten”

…………………

Our thanks go to Becky Nicholls for Sponsoring the Macieira Open

Last Private Service in Vale da Telha

Dear all,
This year, we can look back on ten years of ecumenical services on the West Coast of Algarve. They started on the initiative of pastor Welker in 2008 – with a religious service at Igreja Matriz (Aljezur).
As a result of local circumstances, we were later obliged to hold our church services at private houses (mostly at Casa da Paz, Vale da Telha).
Evidently, conditions are changing now and we hope that we can again have services in Aljezur.
Therefore, the last „private“ service will be on Maundy Thursday in Vale da Telha,
M 24 (tel. 282 997 007) on the 29th of March at 6 p.m.
We would be pleased to welcome you. Maundy Thursday is the annual commemoration of Christ´s Last Supper with His disciples.
It would be nice if we could be together with you for a few hours after the service.
We shall offer alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and we ask you to bring along some food.
We ´ll make a collection in order to enable a young Portuguese person to attend events at Taizé (under the responsibility of RA João Cabral).
Kind regards,
Doris and Uwe
