Discounted Medical Treatment through Amovate

In the attachment there is information relating to the HPA Saude group of hospitals and clinics where discount can be obtained as a member of Amovate.
The information includes the list of hospitals and clinics in the Algarve area and the discounts available on various treatments.
Amovate have signed the protocol of collaboration and it was delivered it last Saturday to São Gonçalo hospital in Lagos.

Amovate Memberships and Discounts

It appears that some members are getting confused with the membership of Amovate, since the change some 3 years ago.

To remind people – the Amovate membership is €10 per person.  This was changed from €15 per couple, with the partner member not being able to vote at any general meetings.

The change was made as it was unfair to single individuals that were having to pay the full €15 to be a member.

Members are able to obtain discounts in some shops or bars, but this discount is only for the member – not their partner, and you should show any up to date membership cards to the establishment offering the discount before you are served.

So, if you want the benefit of receiving the discount then both partners need to join.

Amovate have been made aware that the Restaurante Fonte do Vale have been giving discount to non-members which is neither fair to the Restaurant nor existing Amovate members.

Membership Secretary Alan Nightingale will be happy to receive any new membership requests.

Beatles, Bottles & Bombeiros

by Matt D’Arcy
Beatles Tribute Band Helps Raise More Than €3,000 For Bombeiros
The Beatles famously sang “Money Can’t Buy Me Love”—but it CAN buy vital
equipment for the Bombeiros.
And west coast community association AMOVATE enlisted the aid of The Bottles,
the Algarve’s Beatles tribute band, to help raise just over €3,000 for the fire
fighters of Aljezur.
It was anything but “A Hard Day’s Night” as more than 200 people—local
residents and Day Trippers—twisted, shouted and danced through the evening,
hosted by the Restaurante Fonte do Vale, which also donated €500 to the final
total.
Another €300 was donated by the Aljezur Câmara and more cash was raised on
the night as seven year-old Summer Serafim D’Arcy mingled with the audience,
persuading them to drop any spare change into a collection bucket.
AMOVATE—the Associação Dos Moradores e Amigos do Vale Da Telha, or the
Association of Residents and Friends of Vale da Telha)—have, in recent years,
organised the donation of €50,000 worth of fire fighting and rescue equipment for
the Aljezur Bombeiros.
And they decided they should “Help” their local fire fighters once again following
last summer’s catastrophic fires across Portugal.
They created a replica of the famous Liverpool Cavern stage to resurrect the
atmosphere of the iconic club which was the heartbeat of Merseybeat, and
provided a spectacular 60s night of music from that era, provided by The Bottles.
The outside frontage of the restaurant featured an elevated replica of the famous
arched brick-worked Beatles stage (built by members of the Amovate Committee), which left the audience feeling “Glad All
Over”—and ultimately will benefit the area’s fire fighters.
Amovate committee member Steve Scott declared: “We were all moved by the
heroic and selfless actions of the fire fighters who so bravely and fearlessly
tackled last year’s huge outbreaks of fires across Portugal.
“And we know from experience that our local bombeiros, many of them
volunteers, are just as ready to risk their lives on our behalf.

“You can’t buy the kind of bravery and skill these men and women show in a time
of crisis. But we felt we could help to provide them with some of the resources
they need to do the amazing job they do in such times.
“Often they appear to be short of either new or replacement equipment, which can
also mean basic items like gloves and not necessarily the more expensive items.
Now, we will talk with fire chief Mario Costa to see what they need most from the
€3,094 we raised on the evening”.
AMOVATE President Matt D’Arcy jnr, who is from Liverpool, declared: “It was a
fabulous evening and showed a real community spirit to get behind our fire
fighters this way.
“It put the fun into fundraising and everyone involved should be very proud that
their hard work culminated in such a successful and enjoyable event.”
It all goes to show–you can’t beat the Mersey Beat!

New Initiative on Green Waste – Update

Amovate are pleased to announce that the Aljezur Câmara are about to launch a real initiative on Green Waste.
Last Friday at the Town Hall the President José Manuel Lucas Gonçalves…..and Antonio Carvalho Director, met with the Amovate President Matt Darcy together with the Vice President Ian Bedford and the Administrator Steve Scott. They were told of the Câmara’s intention is to open a new station to deposit Green Waste within easy reach of Vale Da Telha.

The station due to be open later this year will allow both householders and contractors to take their garden waste and place it in large bins for removal to the Algar Depot.

This will initially be free of charge with the hope that it will stop people depositing such rubbish at the domestic bin collecting areas.

Of course the Câmara are aware that there are limited funds to carry out this operation and therefore the station will have a schedule of opening times.

You will also have noticed additional recycling banks around the Vale da Telha area.  The Câmara intend to increase these numbers in the coming months to help deal with the Summer season.

Amovate greatly support this venture that will go a long way to helping clean up areas within VDT that are not only an eyesore, but a health and fire hazard.

Amovate have made it clear to the Câmara that it would like to see this area enlarged to take on general small building project material waste, as well as larger household goods such as fridges and furniture. However, they say that at present there is a problem dealing with these other items mainly due to costs. They will be issuing a phone number that can be used for the house hold goods to be collected from home. Building waste is an expensive waste to dispose of and any expansion on the proposals will need careful consideration especially financial input from others.

Amovate and the Câmara after the scheme is underway, will look to further the venture but initially the correct disposal of Green Waste is paramount in a more cost effective and suitable manner than at present.

Representatives from the Câmara, the Junta de Freguesia, Algar, the Costa Vincentina National Park and the GNR hopefully will attend a meeting on 4th June to expand and inform the residents of this venture, and the implications of dumping waste in places other than this new station.

Householders and visitors are reminded that The Câmara, Green Waste Police, The Park Authority and the GNR ALL have the ability to fine people for discarding any of these waste objects whether at bins, within the National Park itself or any fly tipping.
The householder from where it has been generated from, as well as the contractor depositing the waste are responsible and liable, these fines are not small and range from hundreds to thousands of euros per fine so be warned.

Adverts and posters will be placed around VDT to inform householders of the venue.
