Amovate Post Boxes on Vale Da Telha

Amovate own and regularly maintain the two blocks of post boxes at the tennis courts and the apartments. There are 240 in each block. The block adjacent to the tennis courts is at 95% capacity and the apartments block is 79%.

We are therefore now embarking on a campaign of confirming those who have and use these boxes and a while back each box holder was left a form in their box to update the information on our records.

Recently on inspection we have discovered that some boxes being used are unregistered to the user and this needs rectifying. There are 13 non registered boxes at the tennis courts and 51 at the apartments.

We unfortunately have several incidents where owners who sell their property pass on the post box keys, unfortunately the boxes do not belong to the house owner but Amovate and new owners need to register these boxes in their name and pay the appropriate fee. These Post Boxes are not transferable.

To enable the registering to now take place these boxes will be sealed and no new post will be delivered in them.

The CTT have been informed of the actions we will be implementing: changing locks and sealing the inside of the unregistered boxes. This will mean no further access to these boxes and any mail will be returned to the CTT depot.

This action will also help free up boxes not being used and will allow for new residents to have a post box on Vale Da Telha

In the future once we get near the point of full capacity we will apply to the Camara to extend the blocks to provide more boxes.

We have been asked what the €10 fee covers; generally it is for maintenance work, renewal of locks and keeping the areas tidy.

Any questions that the users have can be directed to the Amovate Committee member responsible for the boxes by e-mail to caixapostal@amovate.com

Thanking everyone in anticipation of your help

Join Amovate And Save Money!

by Matt D’Arcy

Yes, that’s right! It costs the ridiculously small sum of €10 to join Amovate, or €20 for dual membership (member and partner), but that opens the door to a host of savings that mean—to all intents and purposes—it costs you nothing to join!

As an Amovate member you get discounts on your food bill in places like the Restaurante Fonte do Vale when you show your card.

But more recently we have negotiated hotel discounts, plus significant discounts on private health treatment plus home, car, life insurance etc.

You will be given full details of these savings when you join.

And here, for example, is one illustration showing how being an Amovate member can save you much, much more, than your initial membership fee.

On May 3rd, we received this e-mail from a member:

I just wanted to say a big thank-you to those on the committee who negotiated the deal with Hospital S.Gonçalo.

Although we do have private medical insurance, it does not cover GP consultations or emergencies, and I had to go down yesterday to see the doctor as an emergency.

I thought I would produce my Amovate card and see what happened!

I was immediately given a 20% discount.

I have to go back today for X-ray and ultra-sound which again will be a big saving with the discount.

So once again, many thanks.

I wish more people would realise that for only 20 Euros a year a couple can be part of Amovate and save money as well!

So, there you have it.

As we said at the outset…join Amovate and save money. You know it makes sense!

Keep Fit At Amovate

Retiring to a place in the sun………everyone’s dream.

Sitting out on your terrace under almost permanent blue skies, sipping wine, eating good food, getting fat and unfit…

GETTING FAT AND UNFIT!!!

Well, it does happen! For every cause there’s an effect and if we’re not careful the good life can bite you in the bum.  There’s no doubt that a sedentary lifestyle ages you even quicker than Old Father Time.

But if there’s an effect for every cause there’s a solution to every problem.  You can enjoy the lifestyle, and still help yourself to stay fit and trim simply by joining us at the twice-weekly Keep Fit Class at Amovate.

We happen to believe that, thanks to the efforts of organiser Bob Packham, we now have perhaps the best-equipped gymnasium on the west coast of the Algarve, although we do stand to be corrected should anyone know better.

As you can see from the photographs here we use two adjoining rooms for each session. And you have use of a multi-gym, two professional-standard running or walking treadmills, cross-trainers, exercise bikes, rowing machine, weight benches, abdominal crunchers, a variety of equipment to tone up or strengthen various parts of your body and a large assortment of free weights.

There’s no pressure on anyone—you need do only what you can do and it is up to you how you develop your routines as time passes, in your search for better fitness, strength, mobility and agility levels.

Begun more than nine years ago by Bob’s son, professional fitness coach Chris Packham, the class was taken over by Bob when Chris moved back to the UK to take up a hospital physiotherapy appointment.

Chris keeps in touch with Bob with suggestions and ideas for the classes, and Bob has since been joined in organising and running the classes by Ian Bedford who once took fitness and coaching sessions for semi-professional and amateur football teams.

The classes are held twice a week, at 11.30am on Monday and Wednesday at the Old Schoolhouse, situated where the road forks outside Vales, towards Arrifana to the left and Vale da Telha to the right.

We have a hard core of around 12-15 enthusiasts, with an average attendance probably of 10 to 12.

Each session lasts for one hour and normally begins with a 10-minute aerobics warm-up to music, followed by around 40-45 minutes of exercises using the equipment, weights and floor mats you can see in the accompanying pictures.  The routines are changed for each session so there’s no risk of anyone getting bored and the entire session comes with a background of enjoyable music.

It’s fun to be fit…and these classes make it fun to get fit!

So come along and see for yourselves:

All are welcome. No membership fee is required and the cost per session is just €2.50. If you would like further information please do not hesitate to call Ian Bedford on 282995249 or Bob Packham on 917961555
