Declaration of the Situation of Calamity – Preventive Measures.

Amovate have been sent a document from the Câmara Municipal de Aljezur, which in turn has come from the National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) regarding the Situation of Calamity which has been recently declared in Portugal.

DECLARATION OF THE SITUATION OF DISASTERS – PREVENTIVE MEASURES

  1. Weather situation:

According to the information provided by the IPMA for the next 72 hours, the following is highlighted:

 Today, wind direction to Northeast in the highlands of the North and Central Portugal, with speed up to 35 km / h, and increases on Sunday up to 45 km / h with sometimes gusts of up to 60 km / h in the morning and towards the end of the day;

 Maximum temperature increases from today, especially on the north and central coast, with values ​​on Sunday between 33 and 40 ° C in the whole territory, except in the Algarve and Vicentina coast, being able to reach 40 to 44 ° C in the zone of the valley Of the Tagus, in the interior of the Center and interior of the Alentejo;

 Minimum temperature increases, especially at dawn on Sunday, with values ​​close to 20 ° C in the evening from Saturday to Sunday and from Sunday to Monday (in particular in the highlands of the districts of Castelo Branco and Portalegre with values ​​between 20 ° C and 25 ° C);

  • Relative air humidity decreases today and on Sunday to values ​​between 10 and 30% in most of the territory, except in the Algarve and the Vincentian coast, maintaining low values ​​during the night (between 30% and 65%), especially in the dawn of Sunday and Monday that in the interior North and Center does not rise above 35%;

 Fire risk indices at very high and maximum levels in several municipalities and in general at a high level in the other municipalities in the Algarve, Baixo Alentejo, Alto Alentejo and central and northern regions. It is also worth noting the increases on Sunday to levels very high and maximum of several municipalities of Minho and Douro-littoral and the interior of the districts of the north and central coast.

  1. EXPECTABLE EFFECTS

Depending on the forecast of the evolution of the meteorological conditions, it is expected: Hot and dry weather and moderate wind, with permanence of favorable conditions for the eventual occurrence and propagation of forest fires.

  1. PREVENTIVE MEASURES

The ANPC recalls that, in accordance with the legal provisions in force, it is not allowed:

 Burning, burning of fires for recreation or leisure, or for cooking of food;

 Use of burning and combustiable equipment for lighting or cooking of food;

 Burning cut and mowed bushes and any kind of green waste;

 The launching of fireworks or any other type of rocket;

 Smoking or making fire of any kind in the forest spaces and pathways that surround them;

 Fumigation or disinfestation in apiaries with fumigators that are not equipped with sparking devices.

It should also be noted that, within the framework of the Joint Order that issued the Disaster Declaration, it was determined:

 Prohibition of access, circulation and permanence within forest areas, previously defined in the Municipal Fire Protection Plans Against Forest Fires, as well as in forest paths, rural roads and other routes that cross them;

 Prohibition of the use of fireworks or other pyrotechnic devices, regardless of their form of combustion;

 Suspension of all fireworks release authorizations that may have been issued in said municipalities and while the state of disaster is in force;

 Prohibition of the use in all rural areas of internal or external combustion engines, including all types of tractors and agricultural or forestry machinery, as well as work in the forest areas using motor-machines, road cutters and shredders ;

The National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) also recommends that behaviors and attitudes be adapted to the situation of forest fire hazards, in particular by adopting the necessary precautionary  measures, taking into account the existing prohibitions and paying particular attention to the evolution of the fire. Fire hazard for the next few days, available from the websites of the ANPC and IPMA, at the Forest Technical Offices of the City Councils and Fire Departments.
